Meet your guide:
Sam Furnival

Recognized as a “Starred Guide” by the City with a score of 147/150

A native New Yorker and lifelong learner, Sam has always been mesmerized by this magnificent metropolis. He is a proud graduate of NYC public schools, Wesleyan University, and Harvard Law School.

Before becoming a Professional New Yorker, he was simply a young professional in New York. Through his work, he gained keen insights into the intricate ways the city operates. He enjoyed a bird’s eye view of NYC from the 60th floor of the Empire State Building while editing archives for Architectural Record Magazine, then got a peek at the municipality’s underbelly as an intern at the NYC Law Department.

He clerked at two of the city’s leading law firms but ultimately decided to leave the legal industry after realizing that his favorite part of the workday was his walk to and from the office.¹

Sam is a consummate storyteller, inquisitive researcher, and convivial travel companion. He loves to explore his endlessly fascinating hometown with friends old and new. He lives on the Upper West Side of Manhattan with his wife, their cats Tammany & Fiorello, and an overflowing library of books on New York’s history, architecture, culture, geology, politics, and wildlife.

¹ Lawyers also tended to delete his best footnote jokes so he needed to find a more appreciative audience for his humorous asides.
